LOOP DESIGN: ACTIVITY
1 Construct a loop in the shape of a "klothoid." The klothoid shape is like an upside down tear drop.
Start the car at various heights. Determine the starting height in
which the car just makes it around the loop without falling
off the track. This height is ___________m.
Does the car make it around the circular loop from the same height
as before? ______ If the car falls off the track, draw an arrow on
the circular loop to indicate where this happens.
What is the minimum height the car needs to be started from to
just make it around the circular loop? ________________________m.
Why are loops on most roller coaster rides klothoid shaped instead
of circular?
