WATER VEHICLE CONTEST



GOAL: To build a water vehicle that will cover 8 feet the quickest.
Entries can go in either category:
1) Battery powered -No more than two 1.5 volt batteries
2) Non-Battery powered
The water vehicle must be less than 18 inches in length
The maximum boat draft is 4 inches



The vehicle must be self propelled
The boat cannot be made from a kit
The boat must be built by the student
To qualify for the minimum points, 30, the boat must travel at least
2 feet in 45 seconds without capsizing or sinking.

Points will be awarded based upon the boats speed ranking at the end of the day. Specifically, the student's percentile in the ranking determines the points earned.
The water vehicles will be raced in a 8 inch diameter pipe filled with 4 inches of water. The pipe is cut open at the top. Below is a diagram of the cross sectional dimensions of the pipe. Because of the pipe's diameter, make sure your water vehicle is less than 7 inches wide.





NOTE: THE TROUGH IS A PIECE OF PVC PIPE 10 INCHES
IN DIAMETER WITH END CAPS. THE PIPE COST US
ABOUT $80 IN 1990.
